Joy Edgington

Expert Overview

Joy is a full-time patchwork and quilting tutor based in Birmingham and is the founder of Pastures New Quilting where she provides classes for all abilities. Her interest in sewing began as a small child and she still has her first appliqué pictures made when she was around 9 years old. Like most people of a ‘certain age’, she started making a hexagon quilt, hand stitched over papers, when she was in her teens but didn’t get it finished for another 30 years or so!

She was irrevocably hooked by the patchwork and quilting bug over 30 years ago, completing a City and Guilds course where she learned more than she could ever have imagined. Through sharing that knowledge with others, she has developed a step-by-step approach where students can build on their skills and make items that demonstrate the techniques they have learnt. Joy was the Project Linus Co-ordinator for Birmingham South for over 15 years and, from its launch in February 2017 to its end in December 2019, Joy was a guest designer on the Sewing Quarter tutorial and shopping channel.
