Enjoy a creative weekend in the peaceful Northamptonshire countryside with expert Janet Goddard. Across two full days of sewing, you’ll learn how to piece and applique a bold, tropical-themed quilt top using a Bernina 500 series machine. This eye-catching design is ideal for showcasing large-print fabrics, with clever block rotation creating a striking secondary pattern. Don't miss out – this weekend is the perfect opportunity to relax, sew, and be inspired!
Our UK team is here and happy to help!
Please choose your preferred 3 day itinerary
Workshop Information: We will border large appliqued tropical flowers with patchwork strips. The blocks are then rotated to create a secondary pattern and a stunning quilt. This quilt is a good opportunity to use fabrics that have larger prints on them. The project is machine pieced and appliqued, and the finished size is approximately 57 inches square.
Skill Level: You need to be able to use a rotary cutter and ruler and stitch an accurate 1/4 inch seam on the sewing machine.
Requirements List: The requirements listed below are sufficient to make the quilt top, however fabrics for the border, backing and wadding will be needed to finish the quilt after the weekend. 1 1/4 metres light background fabric, 12-13 fat quarters of fabric for the blooms and the strips (choose 13 if you want more choice or are worried you might make a mistake!), 3 metres HeatnBond Lite or Bondaweb, neutral thread for piecing and thread to match the appliqued shapes, rotary cutter, ruler and cutting mat, plus the usual sewing equipment including pins, scissors, marking pen/pencil, unpicker etc.
Make your own way to the Staverton Park Hotel & Golf Club and check in to your room from 3pm. Get to know your expert, Retreat Manager and fellow crafters over dinner this evening.
