The morning begins with an exploration of a number of different cast-on techniques to give a variety of edges before turning our attention to understanding and achieving accurate tension, learning how to measure it correctly and adjust for consistent results. The session continues with essential finishing skills, including seaming and neatly weaving in ends.
In the afternoon, a professional physiotherapist joins the workshop to offer practical advice on posture and demonstrate exercises designed to reduce discomfort and prevent strain while knitting. We then move on to picking up stitches, creating neat edgings and button bands, and concludes with blocking techniques.
By the end of the day, you will have gained valuable skills to improve both the quality of your knitting and your comfort while doing it!
Today is dedicated to the art of mending, equipping you with the skills and confidence to rescue damaged garments and extend the life of your handmade pieces.
Beginning with a range of darning techniques, you will learn how to tackle everything from worn areas to those all-too-familiar moth holes. Then, with guidance and plenty of reassurance, you will practice cutting into your knitting, unravelling sections, and learn how to rejoin and graft stitches to restore your work seamlessly.
Although these techniques may seem daunting at first, they open a whole new world of possibilities for repairing and altering knitted fabrics. You will leave the weekend feeling empowered and inspired, armed with the practical skills and confidence to create, mend and maintain your projects with professional results. Whether breathing new life into a cherished favourite or tackling future mishaps with ease, you will depart as a renewed knitter, ready to repair and stun!
