Holiday Overview
Join award-winning textile artist Pat Archibald at the 4-star Staverton Park Hotel & Golf Club as she guides you through her soloist quilt project. With on-point blocks and carefully coordinated supporting fabrics, you’ll explore techniques that highlight contrast, balance and harmony. Including a relaxing stay in Northamptonshire and use of your own Bernina 500 series sewing machine, join a small group of fellow stitchers on this perfect short break.

Workshop Information: This delightful quilt is centred around the use of a larger scale feature fabric along with other coordinating and contrasting fabrics. The feature fabric is used in four large squares which are approximately 6 inch square but set on point. Three other supporting fabrics plus a border are required. The overall measurement of the finished quilt is approximately 36 inches (95cm) square.
Skill Level: Skills in rotary cutting and basic machine piecing will be a big advantage. Not suitable for absolute beginners.
Requirements List: A requirements list will be supplied so that you can choose your own fabrics and colours.
Check in to your room from 3pm. Get to know Pat, your Retreat Manager and fellow guests over dinner this evening.

The day will start with a discussion on fabric selections and the use of large-scale fabric. Pat will demonstrate rotary cutting before you start to cut all your fabrics.
After lunch, Pat will demonstrate how to organise your patchwork pieces so that the piecing can be efficiently and accurately machine pieced into units.

Pat will start the day with a demonstration of stitching the units together to form a quilt top, followed by the layering of the quilt top with wadding and backing. There will be a discussion of different types and styles of simply quilting before you start quilting. The day will end with a discussion on and demonstration of different types of binding.

Please Note: Although there are no mobility requirements for this tour, please note that you will need to be able to make your own way between our workshop room, your bedroom and the restaurant, which could involve walks of up to 5 minutes. If you require full disabled access, please check with us before booking.
