Make your own way to the hotel and check in to your room from 3pm. Get to know Karin, your Retreat Manager and fellow guests over dinner this evening.
The day begins with an introduction to Karin’s innovative approach to patchwork, starting with a showcase of inspiring Attic Window quilts to spark ideas for your own project. You’ll discuss fabric choices and learn how colour and value can enhance the overall design before moving on to rotary cutting, focusing on accurate and efficient methods to prepare your fabrics. Using your sewing machine, you’ll be guided through Karin’s unique techniques for constructing Attic Window blocks – discovering how these striking blocks can be created, stitching only one seam instead of three. It is magic!.
You’ll also explore how to create curved effects within your blocks, adding another layer of interest to your designs. By the end of the day, you’ll have completed a selection of blocks and gained a range of time-saving techniques to support your patchwork projects.
Today our focus shifts to playful and versatile pinwheel designs. We’ll begin by looking at a range of pinwheel quilts, exploring how different fabric choices and layouts can dramatically change the overall effect. We’ll then look at some quick and efficient techniques for cutting and sewing pinwheel blocks, building on your skills developed the previous day. As your confidence grows, we’ll experiment with ways to introduce movement into your designs, discovering how pinwheels can be arranged and adapted to create curved and dynamic patterns.
By the end of the day, you’ll have a collection of pinwheel blocks and plenty of ideas for using them in cushions, bags, or quilts, along with new techniques to expand your patchwork repertoire.
Following the workshop, depart the hotel and make your own way home at your leisure.
