On this weekend retreat with Janet Goddard, stitch a beautiful quilt that appears to feature curved piecing – yet is cleverly constructed using only straight seams. Working with two complementary blocks, you’ll discover how careful fabric placement and colour choices can transform simple shapes into a dynamic, eye-catching design. The project is fat quarter friendly and equally suited to coordinated colour palettes or a scrappy approach, giving you plenty of flexibility to make it your own. Throughout the weekend, you’ll be guided step by step through a range of techniques, including machine piecing and foundation paper piecing, along with practical tips for accuracy and finishing.
Our UK team is here and happy to help!

Today, we focus on creating the striking stepping stone blocks that form the foundation of your quilt, starting with exploring fabric choices and colour placement. Next, we’ll move on to rotary cutting before constructing the triangle units using foundation paper piecing – an excellent way to achieve precision and sharp points.
By the end of the day, you’ll have a set of completed blocks and a strong understanding of the techniques needed to continue building your quilt.
Today, we focus on the nine patch blocks to complement your stepping stone units. Again, we’ll begin with fabric choices and colour placement, ensuring your combinations continue to balance across the quilt. After rotary cutting the fabrics, we’ll move on to machine piecing the nine patch blocks, focusing on accuracy and consistency so everything fits together perfectly. Once the blocks are complete, we’ll start assembling the quilt top, bringing both block styles together to reveal the full optical effect.
As the day wraps up, we’ll explore ideas for quilting and finishing, so you leave with a clear plan for completing your quilt.
Following the workshop, depart Staverton Park Hotel & Golf Club and make your own way home.
