We’ll start the day looking at charts and written instructions, exploring the principles behind reversible cabling, how to create cables that look equally beautiful on both sides and how the background stitches support the overall effect. We’ll look at suitable casting on methods and time will be spent making a swatch to understand gauge, particularly how reversible cables affect thickness, density, and elasticity. You’ll build confidence by experimenting with a range of background textures, including garter stitch, moss stitch, and incorporating lace stitch elements.
Today we’ll explore a variety of reversible cable patterns and apply them to your cowl or scarf project. We begin by choosing and working rib formats, such as 1x1 and 2x2 before learning how to construct rope cables, combination cables and horseshoe cables. We’ll also look at symmetrical flanking and suitable casting off methods. You’ll leave with a scarf or cowl that looks equally attractive on both the right and wrong sides of the fabric.
