Join expert Carolyn Forster for an inspiring craft weekend, staying at the Staverton Park Hotel & Golf Club. Over the course of this relaxing retreat, you’ll learn how to machine-stitch a beautiful mini-quilt with a picture-frame edge. With the option to add mitred corners, this project offers the chance to refine your skills and explore new techniques. Surrounded by a small group of fellow crafters, this is sure to be a fantastic weekend escape!

Workshop Information: Stitch a mini-quilt with a picture frame edge, lovely as table mats or just to show off special fabrics. This machine-stitching project will give you the opportunity to perfect your skills and try new things with a picture frame border and optional mitred corners. The quilt is then hand quilted in big stitch to complete.
Skill Level: Confident beginner
Requirements List: A kit containing enough fabric, thread and batting to make a mini quilt (18 x 14 inches) is included. You can also bring any fabrics of your own that you might want to use to personalise your project. Vintage embroidered linen can be used in the frame to good effect. You will need to bring a basic sewing kit, fabric marking pencil, fabric scissors, rotary cutter, mat and small ruler.
Make your own way to the Staverton Park Hotel & Golf Club and check in to your room from 3pm. Get to know your experts, Retreat Manager and fellow crafters over dinner this evening.

Today we’ll work step by step through the construction of our mini-quilt, starting with cutting our fabrics and sewing the squares. We’ll then add borders and discuss the options of mitred or square corners. We’ll end the day shaping the border.

Highlights

Today we’ll layer our quilt top with batting and backing and finish the edging. We’ll baste the layers and then hand quilt in big stitch quilting to complete.
Following the workshop, depart Staverton Park Hotel & Golf Club and make your own way home.

Please Note: Although there are no mobility requirements for this tour, please note that you will need to be able to make your own way between our workshop room, your bedroom and the restaurant, which could involve walks of up to 5 minutes. If you require full disabled access, please check with us before booking.
