With our flight-inclusive package, meet Mandy and your Tour Manager at a London airport for your flight to Funchal. On arrival, we will be met by our coach and driver and transfer to our hotel.
If you have booked our join direct package, meet us at the hotel.
This afternoon, we will enjoy a welcome talk and drink at the hotel with our local Madeira representative.
This morning we'll set out on an introductory tour of Funchal, exploring the city's most notable landmarks and attractions on foot. Highlights include a visit to the renowned Embroidery Museum, where Madeira's rich needlework heritage comes to life, and the vibrant local market, brimming with exotic flowers, tropical fruits, fresh fish, regional produce and traditional island crafts.
Our tour then continues to the picturesque village of Monte, perched high above Funchal and known for its beautiful church, lush gardens and stunning views. Here, we'll visit the magnificent Botanical Gardens, home to more than 2,000 species of exotic plants and flowers from around the world, including many rare and endangered varieties. For those seeking a unique Madeira experience, there's the chance to take a traditional toboggan ride from Monte back towards Funchal (additional cost, payable locally).
Following some free time for lunch in Funchal, we'll enjoy a special workshop with the skilled ladies at a local embroidery factory, offering a fascinating insight into one of Madeira's most treasured crafts. We return to the hotel in the late afternoon.
Today we'll enjoy a full-day workshop with Mandy at the hotel, where we can choose to knit or crochet.
This morning is at leisure to relax in the surroundings of your hotel, explore independently or join an optional easy levada walk (additional cost, payable locally).
For those wishing to join the optional walk, this gentle excursion follows one of Madeira's famous levadas – the island's unique network of irrigation channels – through some of the most beautiful countryside. Spectacular views stretch from the mountains to the Atlantic Ocean as you make your way towards the stunning Big Rock Valley, a truly idyllic setting that showcases Madeira at its most enchanting. This mostly flat walk offers the chance to admire colourful wildflowers, verdant valleys and traditional rural landscapes while gaining an insight into local life and the island's rich natural heritage.
Following the walk, you'll be welcomed by a local family at their charming tea house, set amidst beautiful gardens with breathtaking views across the valley. Here, you can explore the herb garden and learn about the medicinal plants traditionally used in Madeira. Relax and enjoy a delicious selection of homemade specialities, including sweet potato bread served with jam and honey, regional cakes and seasonal exotic fruits, accompanied by freshly brewed herbal tea or coffee. The walk covers approximately 2.5 km and takes around 1 hour 30 minutes.
This afternoon, Mandy's second workshop will take place at the hotel.
This evening, we travel by coach to a traditional restaurant high above Funchal, where a local folklore group entertains us as we dine.
Experience the stunning contrast between eastern and western Madeira in a single day on this unforgettable tour.
Perfect for those wanting to see the island's highlights, this journey takes us to the fishing village of Câmara de Lobos; Ribeiro Frio, a natural park filled with endemic flowers; and the charming village of Santana, known for its colourful traditional houses with thatched roofs.
Marvel at the breathtaking views along the northern coast, where waterfalls, deep valleys and towering mountains create a dramatic landscape. Then explore the island's only vast volcanic plateau, Paúl da Serra, before heading south-west, passing picturesque coastal villages, banana plantations and vineyards on our way back to Funchal. A day full of beauty and contrasts!
Enjoy another full-day workshop with Mandy at the hotel.
We'll have a final morning workshop with Mandy at the hotel, leaving the afternoon free for last-minute shopping and sightseeing.
If you have booked our join direct package, your tour ends after breakfast.
With our flight-inclusive package, we transfer to Funchal Airport for our return flight to London.
