Project information: Perfect your hand pieced patchwork with the sewing of a “Catherall Star” patchwork block using a Christmas colour theme. The block is based on the quilt of the same name which is part of the Guild collection. This project is suitable for beginners and those wanting to stretch their hand piecing skills. We will make templates, mark the fabric, cut, and sew the blocks. Skills learned will include set in piecing. The block can be used on its own, or when four are set together, a secondary pattern occurs which would work well as a frame quilt centre or part of a repeat block quilt. Will make one block and then layer it to hand quilt.
Meet Carolyn Forster and your Tour Manager at the Hilton York Hotel. This evening enjoy dinner with your fellow stitchers.
The medieval walled city of York is beautifully decorated this time of year, and what better way to explore than on a guided walking tour with a local guide? Stroll through York’s snickelways, uncover its medieval history, and visit several fabric shops. End at the iconic St Nicholas Fair, where you will have the rest of the day at leisure to wander through the alpine chalets, enjoy the scents of spiced mulled wine and delicious food, and pick up some festive goodies.
We start today with a visit to the Quilters Guild Museum to see some of their historic collection. With one of the curators, we will see how the collection shows various styles and techniques from across the ages. This afternoon, we will return to the hotel for our first workshop with Carolyn.
Today we will continue our projects with Carolyn at the hotel. You can also explore York at your own leisure. Why not visit York Castle Museum and admire their costume and textile display or return to the Christmas Markets for some more shopping?
