Join Mandy Cameron for this inspiring weekend retreat to make a unique framed wall art piece featuring a graceful peacock surrounded by feathers, flowers and leaves. Combining traditional crochet techniques with creative design, this project offers the chance to explore how shaping and dimension bring decorative construction to life, all in a relaxed and enjoyable setting. During the weekend, you'll learn a variety of stitches and techniques: working in rows and rounds, creating intricate motifs and using wire for added structure. We'll begin by crocheting the cover for the frame, working in double crochet and linked trebles and learning how to join the edges neatly as we go. The peacock's body and head will be made in the round using the spiral method, with increasing and decreasing techniques to create the shape. You'll be introduced to reading and following chart symbols to create the decorative motifs that will form the peacock's plumage. Throughout the day, Mandy will advise on practical finishing techniques, including crocheting over loose ends as you work and sewing them in securely for a polished result.
Today we'll focus on creating the decorative elements that will bring our peacock to life. Using a variety of stitches and techniques, we'll make flower and leaf motifs that add texture, detail and dimension to the finished piece. Guidance will be given on arranging the plumage design and how the different motifs work together to create the peacock's elegant tail. We'll then sew or crochet the flowers, leaves and feathers in place, before positioning the peacock securely onto the frame. To complete the artwork, a crocheted chain vine with leaves will be added around the frame for a beautifully finished result.
Following the workshop, depart the hotel and make your way home.
