Today we’ll focus on learning and building confidence in back-basting appliqué. You will be guided step-by-step through preparing fabrics, transferring designs, and understanding how colour and fabric choices can enhance your work. Using the back-basting appliqué technique, you will practise accurate stitching while learning plenty of helpful hints and tips along the way, stitching your own appliqué panel which can be finished as a cushion front, mini-quilt, or developed further at home.
Throughout the day, there will be opportunities to explore variations on the basic techniques.
Today we’ll expand our hand-stitching skills by exploring the traditional art of redwork embroidery. Using appliqué designs as inspiration, you’ll learn how to transfer designs onto fabric and stitch them using classic redwork techniques. You’ll discover why this style of embroidery became popular from the 1930s onwards because of its simplicity and decorative charm.
Following the workshop, depart the hotel and make your own way home.
