Renowned for her one-of-a-kind pieces of work made from fabulous and unusual African fabrics, join Janice Gunner on this weekend retreat where you'll create your own wall hanging using improv piecing log cabin style. With no pre-planning, you will work intuitively under Janice’s guidance to make a piece of work that is unique to you.

Itinerary

Requirements List: Please purchase a Janice Gunner Special Selection fabric pack from The African Fabric Shop in the colours of your choice. You will also need to bring 1 metre square of your preferred wadding, 1 meter square of backing fabric, a sewing kit, neutral coloured thread, a rotary cutter, mat, ruler, and a notepad and pen.
Make your own way to the Staverton Park Hotel & Golf Club and check in to your room from 3pm. Get to know your expert, Retreat Manager and fellow crafters over dinner this evening.

We’ll start the day with an introduction to this improvisational way of working, discussing fabric choices, colour combinations, scale of prints and sizes of pieces.
Janice will demonstrate rotary cutting the pieces, how to make them fit together and how to make individual modules to make up the whole piece.
We’ll also look at the use of applique, if appropriate, and tips for accurate piecing and pressing.

Highlights
- Workshop
Today, we continue piecing before moving on to layering for quilting. Janice will discuss and demonstrate various methods for quilting our work, including types of threads and finishing/binding techniques appropriate to this style of working. A question-and-answer session and mini show-and-tell will conclude our weekend.
Following the workshop, depart Staverton Park Hotel & Golf Club and make your own way home.

Please Note: Although there are no mobility requirements for this tour, please note that you will need to be able to make your own way between our workshop room, your bedroom and the restaurant, which could involve walks of up to 5 minutes.
